1SE – March

March begins on the north coast, on a whale safari in Samana. I say good bye to Christin who travels on to Mexico. March is not very kind, so I try to collect beautiful everyday moments to cheer myself up. I go to my french classes and Aurélien and I begin the move to our new apartment. We try to spend as much quality time together as possible. No big adventures, and that is perfect right now. We clean out our old room and work hard to make the new apartment ours. Natasha, that beautiful soul, brings me flowers to celebrate.

I get ill and sleep for two days. We loose power the one night I am on my own (while Aurélien is in Haiti for work). I am so very scared of the dark, but I light many tea candles and the powers comes back after an hour or so. I manage to film our house lizard Nils-August (with french pronunciation of course), I hold a workshop at the French School about using instagram as a business and I fill up the fridge with organic veggies. The last day of the month I feel sad, so Aurélien takes me for an ice cream. This is where I take a deep breath and decide that March is finished and I’m ready to move on.

I made a movie about Christin’s visit

As you all know, Christin came to visit me here in the Dominican Republic a few weeks ago. And of course I had to make a short film about it. We spent the first week in the capital Santo Domingo because of work and school. The second week we rented a car and drove to the north coast. It was really nice for Aurélien and me as well because we got an opportunity to explore new places of the island!

a new way of journaling

We are moving apartments. And it’s not just that. Everything feels a bit up in the air right now and it’s freaking me out. But I have a strong feeling in my gut telling me to sit tight, to not make any big decisions. This is a storm I have to wait out. And this is difficult for someone like me. I am a doer. I work through things. I don’t wait around. But there is possible a lesson here about grace. So I’m bowing my head down and get on with things, trusting.

This morning I sat down with my coffee to journal as I always do to start my day. Then I realised I had left my notebook at the new apartment. I was frustrated for one second and then decided to stop, as it would not help. Instead, I grabbed scrap paper and started jotting down whatever came up. When I collected the pieces, an emotional journey emerged.

1SE – February

February was busy and eventful. I went on job interviews and kept busy until my friend Christin came visiting from Sweden. She brought chocolate, books and happiness. We spend a week in santo Domingo before traveling north. We walked on beaches, looked for manatees, went surfing and rested in sun chairs.

French memories

Found a folder with short film clips from our trip to France over Christmas. I had totally forgotten about them! It felt a bit like finding a really old box of photos and video tapes in the attic. And since one of my goals for this year is to make more videos and practice editing, I put together this short film. I do love this found footage and bad home video feeling. Just a moment time, not very exciting maybe. Nothing fancy, no WOW effect. But important to me. They are my memories.

1SE – January

This is my 1SE (1 Second Every Day) for January: Aurélien and I travel to Chamonix where we meet friends, ski and eat soup in the sun. The days after I have a social hung-over and spend some alone time in a cozy café back in Annecy. Vi travel via Paris back to Santo Domingo. I tidy and organise to land in the new year and Aurélien builds a table from an old door. Slowly we find our way back into the day-to-day-life. I start my new french course and we eat a lot of salads. I take out the ukulele more often and spend time with friends. One weekend we go to Cabarete, we stay on a ranch with a lot of dogs and we surf. Life is coming back to normal.

1SE – December
